Announcing Limited Release Octopus in Bullwhip Kelp Hot Sauce

Klawock, Alaska - Today, two of Southeast Alaska’s most beloved craft-makers, Wildfish Cannery and Barnacle Foods, announced the launch of Wildfish Cannery Octopus in Bullwhip Kelp Hot Sauce. The first small batch of this limited release product goes on sale today.

In recent years, Wildfish Cannery has been at the helm of America’s canned seafood resurgence, and Barnacle Foods has emerged as America’s premier Alaska kelp brand. Yet, despite their growing popularity and success beyond their home shores, both companies have remained true to their Southeast Alaska roots.

“I’ve wanted to add a spiced octopus to our line-up for years, but I knew we needed to work with another Alaska manufacturer who shared our Alaskan values. I’ve always admired Barnacle Foods, and I already knew our customers loved their products, so this was really the perfect opportunity for collaboration,” said Wildfish Cannery Owner Mathew Scaletta.

“We said yes to this collaboration not only because of Wildfish Cannery’s track-record for creating delicious artisanal products, but because we view the company as an ally in achieving our mission of harnessing the value of Alaska’s resources, creating resiliency for coastal communities, and keeping the health of our oceans a top priority amidst changing ocean climates,” said Lia Heifetz Barnacle Foods Founder & Co-Owner.

Wildfish Cannery’s Smoked Octopus is already a huge fan favorite, but Octopus in Bullwhip Kelp Hot Sauce skips the smoke in favor of a simple cure, followed by the addition of Barnacle Foods’ award-winning Bullwhip Kelp Hot Sauce.

“While some European producers offer spiced octopus, none of it is Alaska octopus, and none of it features kelp in the list of ingredients. This product is not only the first tinned seafood and kelp collaboration in Alaska, but I haven’t seen anything like this available on the market, period,” said Scaletta. “We’re always on the hunt for new flavors and new ingredients. While we don’t want to reveal too much, you can expect to see more small-batch, limited-release products like this in the future. The exploration never stops,” said Scaletta.
